Overview:

This product provides an intuitive GUI administration desktop window which supports multiple remote server administration windows open simultaneously. It uses our Omni Directory Services (ODS) system which actively communicates and permits administration of many remote servers from various vendors- currently including Linux, MS Windows, and Solaris 9/10. We believe by the end of this year it will be enabled to administer Apple OS-X, and eventually IBM AIX servers as well. All communication is done with high-level encryption, using AES 256-bit advanced encryption. WiseFirm-Admin also includes our Iron-Backup product integrated. Our goal was to make a highly secure and improved standard of administering all network servers and workstations, with minimal installation procedures. You may acquire a demo CD by selecting Make Purchase from the menus. Iron-Admin is completely Java based, with the exception of certain encryption routines. The software provided with this product includes all server-side required software and the Iron-Admin console software.

We offer a Standard and Enterprise version:

The Standard version supports management of POP3/SMTP/IMAP eMail server, Linux & Solaris users/groups/NFS and file transfer, Linux Samba/Windows Server, MS Windows servers & workstations including Vista, Apache/PHP Web server, and an integrated SSH terminal. All of these features work remotely or locally.

The Enterprise version supports all of the Standard features plus all Iron-Backup features plus management of Linux DNS server services, Linux Samba/Windows PDC Server, JBoss Web Server, Tomcat 6 Web Server, and Multi-server load tracking/charting services. All of these features work remotely or locally.

 Iron-Admin Capabilities:

This product integrates a self-contained desktop wherein you can start numerous remote server administration consoles for various purposes. A tree-view for managing a potentially world-wide network can be constructed by adding WAN/LAN containers to the tree and then adding Servers/Workstations under those containers. Here are the consoles and management capabilities that are implemented:

eMail Sever Management Console:

(This supports SMTP/POP3 and standard Linux user email, no configuration of the Linux server is required)

Iron-Admin implements a powerful Linux email server management console which permits remote management of numerous Linux email servers. You can manage multiple email domains on a single Linux server, and manage nearly unlimited users for each domain. Users can have the same name in different domains. One domain can be identified as a primary domain so that all users in it are also implemented as Linux users so Linux/Unix terminal users can use standard commands such as MAIL to send and receive email. Powerful user account search features are implemented and detailed facets of user accounts can be edited. Logging is also easily viewable.

 Cross-network Backup System Management Console:

(This supports scheduled backups of Linux, Solaris, and MS Windows servers and workstations)

Iron-Admin implements our Iron-Backup solution as a console in the Iron-Admin desktop. This console permits scheduling of backup jobs on any supported computer, the destination of the backup can be on the same computer or a remote destination computer. For more information on this service please read the info on the Iron-Backup product.

Linux DNS Server Management Console:

(This supports Linux based DNS server remote administration)

A DNS management console is implemented into Iron-Admin which provides an easy to use interface for managing Linux DNS servers remotely. You can manage as many zones as needed, and all host records such as A, CNAME, MX, NS, and others. You can set details for zones such as TTL, Serial, Refresh, Retry, Expire, Minimum. You can save and load all zone configuration.

Linux/Solaris User & Group & Filesystem Management Console:

(This supports standard Unix type user/group and filesystem management, including encrypted filesystems)

Iron-Admin implements a console for managing Linux and Solaris standard users/groups and file server services, presented as tree-views. Including directory creation/removal and mounting of filesystems on the server, and even creation of high encryption filesystems using the AES cipher on Linux servers which can be mounted by only users with the correct pass-phrase. You can as well manage exporting of directories as NFS filesystems.

Linux Samba (Windows) Server Management Console:

(This provides MS Windows networking services from Linux servers)

Iron-Admin implements administration of the Samba service on Linux servers. It permits you to create Samba/Windows workgroups as well as domains. A tree-view of all Linux server directories is given providing creation/removal of directories, and sharing of any directory as a Samba/Windows file-server share with user permission settings. You also have a tree-view of users for managing Samba/Windows user accounts. Also Linux/Samba print server support management. With the Enterprise version of Iron-Admin you also can run Linux servers as Windows PDC and BDC servers, and we will soon offer Active Directory domain member support as well.

Windows Vista/XP/2000/2003 Management Console:

(This provides management of users/shares on most any MS Windows workstation)

With the ODS (Iron Directory Services) workstation service installed, you can add workstations to the ODS tree in Iron-Admin. Then a console for any of those workstations can be opened in the Iron-Admin desktop and you can manage workstation user accounts and shared directories.

J2EE Server Management Console:

(This provides remote configuration of J2EE servers and deployment of Java web applications)

Iron-Admin integrates automated management of J2EE servers as an Iron-Admin desktop console. Setting of deployment directories and a directory tree view of the J2EE server deployment area is provided. Deploy and un-deploy .WAR and .EAR applications, while developing on a remote workstation or locally on the server. One can configure IP ports for deployed applications as well. With the Enterprise version you can manage both JBoss 4 and Tomcat 6.

Apache/PHP Server Management Console:

(This provides remote configuration of Apache/PHP servers and deployment of PHP web applications)

Iron-Admin Standard integrates automated remote/local management of the Apache Web server with PHP 5 and MySQL 5 server support. You can deploy whole web sites or just edit and redeploy specific html/php files in a web site. Full support for Virtual Hosting. Quick editing of PHP config files is supported. You can stop/start the server also remotely.

Graphical Load Charts and Logs:

(This provides you the ability to analyze and compare remote server load statistics)

Iron-Admin provides custom logging and the ability to maintain lists of logs and view/search any server log. As well it provides a system for quick viewing of detailed graphical charts of Linux/Solaris server loads over time periods (not supported for MS Windows servers). You can select a number of Linux/Solaris servers, and click the Chart button and select a time period, then a robust chart showing a time-frame comparison of the servers loads will be given.

 Integrated SSH Terminal Console:

(This provides a full SSH terminal window and connecting to servers automatically)

With Iron-Admin you can connect to any server and start an SSH terminal session. Optionally you can store your servers username and password for SSH and then connect subsequent times automatically without providing that authentication information. All user/passwords stored locally on your Iron-Admin workstation are encrypted.

Advanced Installation:

The installation system used for the Linux and Solaris server software is an advanced single install-and-configure method. Though there are multiple server components, both RPMs and our custom software, only one install process is required. The Linux architecture is automatically sensed so i386 and x86_64 systems use the same install CD. Solaris also uses the same CD, but a different install command, and likewise with MS Windows systems.

System Compatibility:

The Iron-Admin console (based on Java) is compatible with most all OS and computer architectures, provided they have a Java VM 1.4 or later installed. The Iron-Admin console software provides management of other network computers and servers, it is a client software component. Here is a list of some of the compatible systems:
